A thread on transphobia.
I don't get what it's like to be trans. I am straight, white, cisgender. Upper middle class.
For a long time, I didn't say much in public. Because being trans was so foreign to me. It made me feel uncomfortable. I didn't want to speak for someone else. But over the last year I realized that had to change.

Normalize Black people coming to this app being safe to speak their minds. What we bring up might abut internal discomfort and biases that you might hold. That is not the minoritized person’s responsibility, though, to educate you, coddle you, to do the work for you. It is your responsibility to not create yet another space where Black people are marginalized or silenced.
I’ve been calculated about bringing this up and now is the time.💖✊🏽

@pauline I’ll gladly gift you mine, dear, but I’m worried you might get lost inside a relatively cavernous medium.

@carrideen Thank you for providing independent verification that many recent horror films were, in fact, cobbled together by selecting elements from the Ikea Cinema Catalog and stacking them loosely atop one another. ☺️
Awww. 💖 the sentiment. 💖 the design. But I literally _never_ wear black. 🙅♀️
Still, much love to all the folks at #Mozilla for making #Pridezilla swag happen.
Good morning, everybody.
Been feeling the urge to dip back into 4x5 #photography lately.
I haven’t done any LF work since I was flattened by Covid in Berlin in early 2020. Kind of intimidated by how heavy all the equipment feels right now (#hrt). Also, I generally only use LF when I’m travelling, and I don’t expect to be doing any of that for the next six months. 😌
Still, … there’s that tickle.
Things are extremely scary over on the birdsite, and I don't pretend to have all the answers. But I do know that calling for Apple and Google to outright ban apps used by millions of people for all kinds of important things is ... playing with fire and not in line with global human rights. Pushing for moderate at that level of the stack is not going to lead to more safety for LGBTQ+ people or other marginalized folks. It's gonna get us censored & silenced. Sending love to my ppl. I get it
Some of you may or may not know that I also write #interactivefiction particularly in #twine. I’m a big proponent of all writers learning a system like Twine actually - it really helps sharpen ‘linear’ fiction as well. Anyway it’s a few years old but my most recent big work is A Bathroom Myth, which is an ongoing fundraiser for the Transgender Law Center.
@adeniro B2EMO had me sobbing by the end, “I didn’t get to see you.” 😭
@semidetached I am reminded of my late-grandmother’s anecdote about preparing a fried chicken dinner for an officer’s club during the war, and confusing powdered sugar with the flour.
Caffeine before all things!! ☺️
@pauline that dingbats are even legal in earthquake country is something Matt and I have spent many long freeway hours going back and forth about.
HRT TMI and Thanksgiving.
@chrmi, it’s so much fun when you first start to glimpse yourself. Happy for you!!
@carrideen I don’t remember who first alerted me to this distortion, but once seen it can never be unseen. And it is everywhere.
