I love all you The Dream of the 90s Web is Alive people, truly I do—I mean, I am one of you, I have a website that's 27 years old and runs on Debian, a Makefile, and my anger at Emacs—but for that very reason I promise it is OK to try to think through what happens when a somewhat janky bit of software starts to be unable to depend on the goodwill of a self-selected user base. We've been here many times before, for both good and bad.

Basic models of flocking behavior are controlled by three simple rules: 1) separation: avoid crowding neighbours (short range repulsion); 2) alignment: steer towards average heading of neighbors; 3) cohesion: steer towards average position of neighbors (long range attraction). With these three simple rules, the flock moves in an extremely realistic way.
