I call it a November-loneliness because there is a sort of demanding stillness in my heart...November never pauses, it listlessly seems to show off, don’t you think so?
-Katharine Mansfield, letter to Virginia Woolf, Nov 1921

@nicole It looks like a giant electric toothbrush.
You asked when I was coming back:
no date fixed yet;
In the hills of Ba the rain by night
spills over autumn ponds.
When might we trim the candle’s wick together
at this window facing west,
And speak back upon this moment:
of night rain falling on the hills of Ba?
君問歸期未有期,巴山夜雨漲秋池。
何當共剪西窗燭,卻話巴山夜雨時。
For tonight - a lifelong favorite, by the late Tang Dynasty poet Li Shangyin
李商隱 - of time, loss, and rain.

@sifutweety I read that too fast and thought The Atlantic was doing a virtuoso pivot.
@vjoshuaadams It's one of the crowning ironies of the last couple decades that widespread acceptance of the sex/gender distinction, with gender as performance and construction, has so nicely set up the gender-critical collapse into "sex is real, gender is made up."
NEW: More than 90 #humanrights and #LGBTQ groups have sent a letter to Congressional leadership opposing #KOSA the poorly named and terribly drafted "Kids Online Safety Act," which would make kids less safe and harm marginalized communities. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/28/kids-online-safety-act-may-harm-minors-civil-society-groups-warn.html
@oulipien We followed an inoculation strategy of peak HP involvement at age five -> Over It by age nine, a good outcome that came at the terrible cost of having to read the whole damn series aloud to a semiliterate kindergartener.
A late 2022 postscript: an image of the " A Letter to Young People" printed in the first issue of La Jeunesse, 1915 (see top of thread) at Zhejiang University; and quotes from Lu Xun's "A Madman's Diary" and "Preface," spotted taped to benches on Beijing Languages Academy campus this evening.
Shared on weibo, hat tip to @bokane
A helpful truck owner parked beside the protesters at the #abortion clinic where I volunteer as an escort; they played music to drown out the hate and were much appreciated. Specifically, they played “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back,” which is the darkest musical trolling I’ve heard in a good while.
Good morning, everybody.
Been feeling the urge to dip back into 4x5 #photography lately.
I haven’t done any LF work since I was flattened by Covid in Berlin in early 2020. Kind of intimidated by how heavy all the equipment feels right now (#hrt). Also, I generally only use LF when I’m travelling, and I don’t expect to be doing any of that for the next six months. 😌
Still, … there’s that tickle.
@nicole I wear black! Where do I get one?

@adeniro It was Sobs!!! Thank you, I'm so glad it's real!
I have half a recollection from right before surgery of reading, here or on a blog or someplace, a heads-up on a band from Singapore(?) that was supposed to perfectly sum up the current pop(?) rock(?) moment, and I stashed the name in my brain and now I've lost it.
Either it's a real memory washed out by anesthesia or it was just an operating table dream. Anyone?
