Plucked from the archives.

I had just come out to my closest friends a week or two earlier on this same trip, so the male/female split of the standee was of the standee was what caught my eye.

We had to walk back to the car for my equipment, because hauling 30 pounds of gear on my back wasn’t how we did our evening ambles. Worth it.

I remember it was well dark, and getting the movements right to have both the castle and the standee in focus took some work.

The negative was processed semi-stand in Rodinal at 1/100 dilution for an hour.

The castle is just barely overexposed. I shot two sheets, and were it possible for me to keep things better organized while traveling, I could have processed the two independently and let the second sheet soak for less time. Then again, highlights are the first to clear. 🤷‍♀️

"Why be openly trans if you pass well enough that people can't tell?"

Because there's nothing wrong with being trans. Being seen is a way of fighting against the bigots who don't want us to be seen or heard.

Because others like me see that they aren't alone.

Because I lost so much time due to a false image of what trans was. Scared and confused by media portrayals, stuck thinking that I'd just be 'an ugly man in a dress'

I needed to see and hear real trans people to see myself.

New study finds "no substantial evidence of any biological advantages for trans women competing in elite women's sport."

"'What threatens women's elite sport, for cis and trans women, is not trans women, but is rather misogyny in the form of underfunding, non-parity in participation and leadership, inequitable sport space allocation/access, and a range of sporting opportunities not afforded to women...in equitable ways.'"

#TransSelfie Eye Contact Jacket

@pauline agrees that this jacket emphasizes the width of my shoulders, but suggests it doesn’t matter because it’s an objectively good jacket.

She’s historically been pretty bad at textiles, but lately there have been signs of nascent aesthetic growth along the relevant vectors. In this case, I even agree with her.

The pin is from miraongchua.shop/collections/m. I realy need a red hair clip to complete the outfit, but I can’t find one anywhere. 😝

it’s really interesting how all of my friends who have been caught up in the tech industry layoffs this week have fit into one or more of three categories:

- over the age of 40
- something other than a cisgender man
- somehow involved in advocacy for inclusive corporate culture

i’m not surprised, just disappointed. and tired.

@futurebird I’m so happy that we have arrived at a time in history when my natural aversion to phone calls is shared by so many. My extroverted friends call me out of the blue and I’m like I love you but why would you choose violence like this.

What's happening in Florida to public education is fulfilling one of the right wing's most fervent goals: the destruction of public education -- and its refashioning as little more than a propaganda tool for the thug-ocracy that runs the state.

Thought I a had a 0700 meeting, but that’s tomorrow; today’s is 0800. I could have slept in until 0500. 🙄

Oh well, not exactly like there’s a shortage of things to do … 👩‍🔧

Fresh back from the framers: my preproduction sketch. Not in love with the matte, but I’ve been known to change my mind.

Today’s project: find the laser level.

A powerful #lesson - source unknown.
A teacher tells her students, "I'm going to come around and whisper to each of you whether you're a witch or a regular person. Your goal is to build the largest group possible that does NOT have a #witch in it. At the end, any group found to include a witch gets a failing grade."
The teens dove into grilling each other. One fairly large group formed, but most of the students broke into small, exclusive groups, turning away anyone they thought guilty.

It's weird, as a librarian, to have to have conversations with yourself about how far you would go. Would I be willing to go to jail for 30 days because I did the right thing and refused to take LGBTQ books off the shelves? Could my family afford me not working for 30 days for doing the right thing? Would I still have a job afterward? Would I be able to maintain my clearances to work with children if I had been to jail for 30 days for not removing allegedly sexually explicit books from shelves?

Basic models of flocking behavior are controlled by three simple rules: 1) separation: avoid crowding neighbours (short range repulsion); 2) alignment: steer towards average heading of neighbors; 3) cohesion: steer towards average position of neighbors (long range attraction). With these three simple rules, the flock moves in an extremely realistic way.
