When people travel to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small.

Few people think that they can radically change the future by doing something small in the present.

This is the only real time travel paradox.

Oh, wow. Something about the recompression on upload has made this image quite dark. :/

Before I was reduced to a semi-liquid diet, my most-recent discovery was adding a splash of black coffee and apple cider vinegar to onions while grilling them. They come out smokey and sweet, and fold into scrambled eggs beautifully.

My parents used to own a small coffee farm in rural Panama. I took this photo on my very last visit, as we were cleaning it up to be sold.

Since Mastodon saw its initial popularity circa 2017, I've noticed that most users and those reporting on it either don't think about the Fediverse as anything more than Mastodon, or treat its history as beginning with Eugen Rochko and the beginning of Mastodon. In fact, Mastodon is the latest in a long line of federated social networks going at least back to Identi.ca, and though I wasn't around for all of it, I find this history pretty interesting. (Thread; boosts welcome!)

A thread on transphobia.

I don't get what it's like to be trans. I am straight, white, cisgender. Upper middle class.

For a long time, I didn't say much in public. Because being trans was so foreign to me. It made me feel uncomfortable. I didn't want to speak for someone else. But over the last year I realized that had to change.

Normalize Black people coming to this app being safe to speak their minds. What we bring up might abut internal discomfort and biases that you might hold. That is not the minoritized person’s responsibility, though, to educate you, coddle you, to do the work for you. It is your responsibility to not create yet another space where Black people are marginalized or silenced.
I’ve been calculated about bringing this up and now is the time.💖✊🏽

Awww. 💖 the sentiment. 💖 the design. But I literally _never_ wear black. 🙅‍♀️

Still, much love to all the folks at for making swag happen.

Good morning, everybody.

Been feeling the urge to dip back into 4x5 lately.

I haven’t done any LF work since I was flattened by Covid in Berlin in early 2020. Kind of intimidated by how heavy all the equipment feels right now (). Also, I generally only use LF when I’m travelling, and I don’t expect to be doing any of that for the next six months. 😌

Still, … there’s that tickle.

Things are extremely scary over on the birdsite, and I don't pretend to have all the answers. But I do know that calling for Apple and Google to outright ban apps used by millions of people for all kinds of important things is ... playing with fire and not in line with global human rights. Pushing for moderate at that level of the stack is not going to lead to more safety for LGBTQ+ people or other marginalized folks. It's gonna get us censored & silenced. Sending love to my ppl. I get it

Some of you may or may not know that I also write #interactivefiction particularly in #twine. I’m a big proponent of all writers learning a system like Twine actually - it really helps sharpen ‘linear’ fiction as well. Anyway it’s a few years old but my most recent big work is A Bathroom Myth, which is an ongoing fundraiser for the Transgender Law Center.

We take care of each other.

Everything else is commentary.

I've read reviews and comments with variations on #WakandaForever being a love letter to Chadwick Boseman.

It's a tribute and homage to Chadwick, but it's a love letter to Black women, *especially* dark skinned Black women.

I think there's less than 10 minutes where a Black woman wasn't central to the scene, and present on screen.

It's also feels like a deeply respectful acknowledgment of the oppression and trauma we share with Indigenous peoples in this hemisphere.

Passes #BechdelTest, too

Trans stuff

I was supposed to have FFS last week. It didn’t happen (), so work sent these sympathy flowers instead 🥰.

I get really (really) run down sometimes (jobs are hard); little gestures like this mean a lot.

Basic models of flocking behavior are controlled by three simple rules: 1) separation: avoid crowding neighbours (short range repulsion); 2) alignment: steer towards average heading of neighbors; 3) cohesion: steer towards average position of neighbors (long range attraction). With these three simple rules, the flock moves in an extremely realistic way.
